Rick,
Where you using the same mirror (mirrors.us.kernel.org)? If so, that

I checked and the deb package on the mirror does match the hash sum now.

Patch looks fine, but that will be up to the maintainer to decide. This
bug is not yet fixed in the latest git version.

Could you add /var/log/dpkg.log as an attachment?
Furthermore, if you wonder how to reinstall your apt package, you could
download the original package for your distribution from

Yes, the problem is most likely caused by gcl and not maxima.
One could try to download the CVS version of GCL and see if the problem
is fixed there. This document says that it should be fixed in their
latest prerelease: http://fricas.sourceforge.net/doc/INSTALL.txt

This has to do with address space randomization that was recently added
to the Ubuntu kernel.
If you set the sysctl variable kernel.randomize_va_space to 0 or 1

either editing /etc/sysctl.conf or by running the following
This problem occurs when address space randomization is enabled (which
is enabled by default on newer kernels). When this option is set to 0 or

I ran into the same issue just yesterday. sudo started segfaulting right
after installing a few samba-related packages. I've been able to make a

I have not touched the nautilus configuration files at all. The upgrade
to Intrepid didn't go as smooth as I hoped, though, so something might
have gone wrong there (all I did was reinstall a few packages, which
might have been nautilus too).
If you need any more information, please let me know.
