Still some minor issues left, like missing icons (firefox etc), maybe
that's the problem of bad XDG_DATA_DIRS. I wonder if I made misstake to
always install meta packages for kubuntu, edubuntu, xubuntu, etc too,
since as far as I can recall, that file you suggested to remove is part
of edubuntu
I would be surprised, if a specific bug like this is caused by a
hardware failure, especially because I am using that notebook since
months without a single problem (with previous versions of Ubuntu, too).
Also, other DEs, like KDE seems to work nicely, with many resource
hungry tasks (which

Interesting, I can't reproduce the bug anymore. The only change on my
system was the switch away from nouveau to nvidia's binary driver. I am
using classic desktop (no unity, nor unity 2D) but composite support
enabled in metacity's settings. I will try to produce a crash file

Hmm odd things happen here all the time it seems ... After the boot
process the first login results in very odd experiences, X crashes after
some minutes (see my report: bug 765136), no nameserver settings in
resolv.conf etc. The interesting part, that logging in second time,
fixes these problems,

/etc/resolvconf/run/interface exists though). /etc/resolv.conf is a symlink to

Sorry, about the text console: no video signal (according to my LCD
monitor's opinion) during the boot, and if I switch to text console from
X (like with CTRL-ALT-F1) I still see the X session however screen is

Maybe I've missed something: I've tried to blacklist radeon module, so
I've created /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-radeon.conf with blacklist
radeon on it, then I did depmod -a then dpkg-reconfigure linux-
image-`uname -r` (I used the freshest natty kernel booted with
radeon.modeset=0 before to allow
MTRR settings:
reg00: base=0x0fffe ( 4095MB), size= 128KB, count=1: write-protect
reg01: base=0x0 (0MB), size= 2048MB, count=1: write-back

By the way I've tried radeon.blacklist=yes kernel parameter as it was
suggested according to some google'd resources. Then radeon did not load
indeed, and system booted (checked with lsmod | grep radeon, no result).

Also, sorry for reposting this bug, it's reported as bug 735126 but it
was about Xorg more, and I couldn't find out how to assign a single bug
for more packages (if it is possible at all). Please visit that bug
report too. I attach a file here (can be found at my other bug report
too), it's got
Installing fglrx allows me to use natty's own kernel, but unity is
unusable then, only black boxes can be seen instead of the panel, the
launcher etc. Classic session works.
