I cannot shutdown from the menus, most of the time I return to the login
screen. Then from the login screen if I try to shutdown, then there is an ugly
Gnome confirmation dialog which asks 'Do you want to shutdown or restart ?'.
Pressing any of the buttons does
I have this issue while playing streamed video, and it can take
sometimes less than 10 seconds after starting playing video when the
system becomes unstable.
Here is the system log, when unity decides to kill this process. VLC takes
3.5Gb or RAM when it's killed!

I have found somebody who has started packaging Squirrel some time ago, maybe
you can try to build on this work.
The package looks decent, although a bit more work will be needed to get it
accepted in Debian and Ubuntu repositories, and the version packaged is a bit
old (3.0 instead of 3.2)
In the geronimo package, add --usj-name=/geronimo-jacc-1.1-spec to the
line with mh_installjar in debian/rules. This will force maven-repo-
helper to use this name instead of the name extracted from the POM.

Thanks for your advice. I muted the S/PDIF channel with alsamixer, and now the
sound works again.
I have checked the history in /etc, and found nothing that explains why the
sound stopped working. The only action is the kernel update from 2.6.35-22 to
2.6.35-23.

Maven uses newer maven-assembly-plugin than official Apache release
There is a problem with the webdav extension: it depends on jackrabbit,
which depends on JCR api, but this library has a non-free license and

some information in the ~/.tomboy folder was corrupted. I deleted the following
folders:

Now Tomboy starts

I've got the exact same specifications as alexroat, an internal GeForce
6100 card, but I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 64 bits. All sounds, including
login sound, music from Rhythmbox and Flash movies have lots of statics,

Solved for me at last! The sound was indeed saturated, I don't know what
changed, but Igor pointed me in the right direction, at last!
What I did was this:
pulseaudio -k
sudo mv /etc/asound.conf /etc/asound.conf.temp
sudo alsamixer

Java 1.7. Try to uninstall icedtea with Synaptic, then reinstall sun-

used quite a lot in Java developments. Also, Maven features the concept
of a repository of libraries, and that is quite similar in concept to
