Jaime, Since the laptop is crashing on MPlayer as well, then Sebastien is correct, and this is not a Totem specific issue, so I am removing that as the assigned package. Now the trick is to find out if the issue is with Xorg or is the Linux kernel. My initial thought, is that this is an issue
