That works in updating the BIOS on this system. However after doing so,

I was able to bring up the wlan once after installing the deb in comment
#8 (with rfkill unblock all/enabling through network-manager). iwlist
scanning was able to work once. However after rebooting I tried to
reproduce and I could no longer do so.

Updated the BIOS on the X220 and I'm still seeing issues, touchpoint
does not work and the trackpad buttons do not work as well. Adding
proto=bare clears up these issues. Fn + F8 does not disable the

Found a solution:

Updated the BIOS to 1.13, no issues hibernating or resuming this system.

Can't seem to get the BIOS bootable CD image to boot with Startup Disk
creator, unetbootin or dd'ing the image. How is this update supposed to
be installed?

option. After install, the system will kick you to a console (again with
nomodeset), and fglrx will have to be installed (sudo apt-get update

correct, though I am adding echo 7
/sys/module/firewire_ohci/parameters/debug which is the only thing
different this time. Not sure if this would cause the firewire device to
function properly. I'd have to test with and without the added
parameters.
