Update from me, the patch for my display crash has been included in 4.11
RC5, and I'm not encountering the kernel bug anymore there, so it's 99%
definitely fixed in 4.11 branch.

I had an USB key with an Ubuntu live-USB plugged in. I ran apt-get dist-
upgrade, which upgraded my linux-image packages. While upgrading, grub-

Tried to reproduce with both current vivid kernel and 4.0-rc2, so far

Current behavior: screen is still black with only mouse cursor shown

When rotating screen with either the display menu in Ubuntu control
panel or via xrandr, the screen is rotated but is black, only the mouse
cursor appears (moving slowing, maybe a 100% CPU task in background?)
When Ctrl+Alt+Fx, mouse cursor disappears, I have to power off
Upstream reports that the bug is not reproducible on other distros, and
is Ubuntu specific.

Editing a basic text file, the weird behavior starts after copying a
text, the mouse cursor starts flickering a lot, ibus-daemon and ibus-x11
then take 100% CPU. CPU back to normal as soon as another window than

I do encounter this bug as well on my Smart Ativ 700. To be more specific :
