Hi Chris,
I gather your message was machine-generated, because I already reported the
product number.
Unfortunately I don't have updates because this problem made the computer
unusable and I since
bought another. (The new one also had a few troubled reboots in the
beginning, but updates
Ciao Fabio,
Thank you for replying. I had meant to update:
Unable to fix the problem, I returned the computer to the store and got an
identical Acer [not Asus] 722-0490. This time I put the battery in before
installing Ubuntu 11.10. It worked. The only problem I have had since is that

Public bug reported:
Perhaps an odd case: In a rush to get a replacement up, I installed
11.10 without putting in the battery. Everything was working fine until
I turned off the computer and installed the battery. Now, with or
without the battery in and with or without external power, the
Bug bot is correct: this is a complaint about Ubuntu in general, and
will remain so until there's some clue as to its source.

This won't be a great bug report because the computer is bricked whenever I put
it though the ordinary
boot procedure. What happens is that it reports a kernel taint and then
panics. I reinstalled the OS twice
today, and am getting the same problem. I wouldn't rule out

Rebooting leads to kernel panic

OK. After apt-get updates, the computer boots, on only the second try!
However, FPDMA queue errors persist, and experience tells me rebooting
will be a risky proposition. Attaching revised dmesg.

Affected by the same bug. Running Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS on hp laptop. See

After running fine for a while, the root file system develops errors and

kostas,
Thanks for replying. So this is definitely the wrong thread, since I'm
not using xrandr. I will look elsewhere . . . (after first trying to
use xrandr to solve the problem.)

External monitor resolution can't be changed on laptop (ati driver)
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/227520
Hi, I'm running Sept 18th's Intrepid, trying to get my Samsung external
(1680x1050) to work with my Toshiba laptop (1280x800), as it did in
Hardy.
First, the fglrx driver didn't work at all, ie the old xorg.conf failed. So I'm
trying the radeon or ati drivers, whose problems seem to be the same:
Sorry, to add xdpyinfo gives
default screen number:0
number of screens:1
screen #0:
dimensions:2560x1200 pixels (678x318 millimeters)
which is indeed what's happening: each screen can pan vertically. 2560=1280
times 2, but where does the 1200 come from?
