For me, the graphical glitches from 3.5.0-27 are gone but today I got a
crash report and GPU hung errors in syslog (but not in dmesg for some
reason):

Thanks for your feedback. I did confirm your workaround does provide a
graphical login screen for me as well:
CTRL+ALT+F1
sudo service lightdm restart
If GDM works too then maybe this is a lightdm bug?
I did try to install the mainline kernel but got errors... (see
