My problems apparently were caused by a defect filesystem on the EFI
partition. I did dosfsck /dev/sda1. Afterwards, the installation did

Same problem: First a U11.10 installation into a 'normal' partition, all
fine.
Later I set up a Logical Volume (actually using CentOS, which is also
installed on the machine). I installed lvm2 in Ubuntu and added the path
to the LV in /etc/fstab. The Logical Volume is available after boot, no

With all updates installed (as of today), I still get the error message
Could not open location 'smb://u...@server/share/'. DBus error
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply
(timeout by message bus).
The error message comes almost instantly, no 100% CPU activity as

When I reboot ubuntu 9.10 after doing an update (apt-get dist-upgrade) I
frequently have to fsck my filesystem, because the superblock last mount
time is two hours in the future. Doesn't feel like a fixed problem to
me.

I agree with jhansonxi that the partman module of the alternate
installer is almost useless. I tried for two days to do a rather simple
setup: two identical disks, RAID 1 for sda1 / sdb1, LVM on top of this
containing only one root partition.
I finally succeed

I can also confirm this bug (8.04 with all updates installed as of
2008-05-20). It is annoying, as it prevents to pre-configure the desktop
for non-skilled users. I need to add a Windows share which stays on the
desktop, so other users can simply open this share without knowing
anything about
I can confirm this bug. Synaptic works fine on ubuntu, but hangs after
every install in kubuntu 8.04 'KDE 4 remix'. I guess it waits for the
end of some process but for some reason doesn't get informed when this
process ends.
