I installed xoscope on ubuntu 14.4. and discovered that this bug is not
fully fixed.
xoscope only works after a reboot or a manual restart of pulseaudio by
issueing the command pulseaudio -k.
suggested fix:
add a post-installation action to restart pulseaudio automatically. Add the
file

I have multiple user account on my netbook. One user (me, uid 1000)

Did some more testing now. It is easy reproduceable for me:
1. boot to gdm
2. log in as main user (uid 1000). Maybe any user will do, I always tried the
main account.
3. use change user function to change to secondary user (uid 1001). gdm
appears, log in, desktop appears. Fine so far.
4. open a
Usually I prefer to use a simple useradd -m, it was the first time
ever I tried the GUI for this simple task. And I checked the group
properties just to be sure that everything is fine. I did not realise
that the group is actually created, so I tried to do it by hand. Call it
a misunderstanding by
The patch failed because my org.freedesktop.SystemToolsBackends.service
is almost empty. This is the full file contents:
[D-BUS Service]
Name=org.freedesktop.SystemToolsBackends
Exec=/usr/sbin/system-tools-backends
User=root
That's all, end of file, and none of the other files in the directory
That's it! Now it works fine. No freeze anymore.
But still: If I add a new user, I would expect the tool to add a group
of the same name and set this as the main group for the new user as it
happens with the initial default user on system installation.

Yes, you are right, it is two different errors:
On creation of a group I get a permission error.
On adding members to a pre-existing group I get an unknown error.
But in both cases I get this temporary freeze prior to the error
message.

I have a similar problem in Ubuntu 8.10. I plugged Labtec wireless
mouse's connector and now I have audio skipping issues also. It occurs
in youtube, totem, vlc (so far anyway). I unplugged the wireless mouse
and the issues occur, but less frequently.

My debian/testing system worked fine. After installing kubuntu 7.04 I
got the crashing shut down problem.
So similar to the solution for gdm-users, if you use kdm:
