Well, I give up. Linux is not for me. My sound has not worked since OSS was removed. I am going back to windows exclusively. Windows just works. I have experienced better bug resolution from Microsoft than from any Linux version. That also means I no longer need a subscription to Ubuntu User or

Thanks for the response . The alsa-info dump (alsa-info.txt.npy1VJi0HV) did still exhibit the loud white noise when booting to Ubuntu 10.04 from a powered off state. I booted windows, made sure the sound was working ok in windows 7. Did a warm boot to Ubuntu 10.04 and the sound worked great. I

If I boot windows first then do a warm restart to Ubuntu then the sound card works great in Ubuntu. If however I do a cold boot into Ubuntu the sound card outputs only white noise. I would really like move away from MS Windows but until the sound can be made to work properly I need windows to boot
