Well, I give up. Linux is not for me. My sound has not worked since OSS
was removed. I am going back to windows exclusively. Windows just works.
I have experienced better bug resolution from Microsoft than from any
Linux version.
That also means I no longer need a subscription to Ubuntu User or
I was hoping that this problem would be fixed this year. Anyone out
there?

I booted windows, made sure the sound was working ok in windows 7. Did a
warm boot to Ubuntu 10.04 and the sound worked great. I
More information. I don't know if this helps but a couple of weeks ago I
also installed 11.04 and it had the same white noise problem. the sound
in 11.04 also worked great if I first booted windows and then did a warm
boot to Ubuntu 11.04.

If I boot windows first then do a warm restart to Ubuntu then the sound
card works great in Ubuntu. If however I do a cold boot into Ubuntu the
sound card outputs only white noise. I would really like move away from
MS Windows but until the sound can be made to work properly I need
windows to boot
