Removing plymouth*.conf rom /etc/init makes kernel 2.6.28 boots but only
in recovery mode. Starting gdm make computer hangs and only hard-reset
is available.
After showing the login screen, computer doesn't accept any input from

I made an upgrade from 9.10 to 10.04 beta 2, everything went smoothly
during upgrade until finally it asked to restart.
After restart it didn't boot again even on recovery mode. boot verbose
messages stops after mounting hard drives.

everything was ok with beta live CD, release live CD and Intrepid fresh
installation.

I don't think it is a hardware problem because everything works well
under Microsoft Windows.
the problem still exists with ubuntu 8.04 besides that after opening the
screen again it flickers for a while.

my laptop is Dell Inspiron 6400, I have about 3:15 hours on Ubuntu while I have
about 4:00 hours on XP.
a related issue is that, the screen not always turned off when closing lid.
instead it may be black but still powered or just nothing happens.

ok, it works on gusty beta but not as supposed
assume we start with only laptop LCD working
it should switch between 3 situations
1 - redirect all output to VGA out and switch laptop LCD off (to save battery).
2 - switch both on.
3 - return to original situation (laptop LCD on and VGA out off).
