The windows border dissapearing when the Windows Effects are activated means

Concerning your wifi card, I suspect a AR5007EG with a fake name, and if
I am right, this will require ndiswrapper.

Ok so it affect 3.5.7 but is fixed in KDE4.
As the backport policy indicates that only crash bugs fixes can be
backported, i don't think the fix will be backported to 3.5.7. I might
be wrong.

Hi!
Having a similar USB wifi stick (edimax EW-7318USg featuring the same RT73
chipset as yours), i had also problems, but in feisty (not upgraded yet).
The point is, the solution I found was to fall back to the legacy driver (rt73
instead of rt73usb, the new driver) and it works well.

Me too i am not a python programmer :) So i'm afraid i won't be of much help

Ok, i have dig a little, lots of cases are similar to yours. (example : [1] )
The trick seems to be that you have several versions of python installed (which
makes sense since you updated from dapper) and gedit is picking the wrong older
libraries.
