Public bug reported:
dpkg reports an error - however it looks like pdnsd is installed
correctly. After a manual stop and start of the deamon, it looks to be
working - tested with dig. It might have been working without the
manual stop/start.

That's OSS for you, don't get your hopes up.
This bug and it's failure to be fixed is not representative of OSS.
I've seen bugs fixed minutes after I've submitted a bug report. Several
times.
That said I first found and reported this YEARS ago when using Hardy

This also now affects Natty as well as Lucid.

I'm surprised that this has not been fixed. It has been a problem for
several Ubuntu releases, long before the Lucid freeze - and it is
destroying peoples' data.
I think the idea of greying out the format button when a partition
rather than a device is selected is a good one. This caters for

After some more testing - I have found using xrandr from the command
line to adjust the resolution upwards, does not affect the mouse pointer
visibility. So a temporary fix is to make a script, and perhaps a make
a launcher from the panel, or menu.

My eeePC 900 running Lucid does not suffer this problem - leading me to
believe it might be some how hardware (graphics) related - perhaps a
unique code path, or something failing, preventing the pointer being
'unhidden'. Thats just my programming intuitive guess however.

I am noticing the same problem on i368 Karmic. Restarting gnome-panel
works for me as well. This has only recently been happening, although,
I'm not sure when it started. I installed over rather than upgrade, so
the .files shouldn't have any hang overs from 9.04.

Perhaps it should format ONLY the partition you have selected, or if you
have selected the device, the whole device. Either way it should tell
you what its about to do, and let you back out.
For example, if the partition list was:
/sdc
/sdc1
/sdc2
Pressing format with the first one selected

This bug shows up in Ubuntu 9.04. It seems to only affect my cd writer
drive and not my DVD drive which is read only. The backtrace backs this
up, as a brasero library is involved. I havn't tried a usb stick, but I
guess it might be affected as the original poster found.
