Comment #24 fixed my problem too! After I tried regulatory domain setting, disabling 802.11n and disabling power saving mode. This is certainly not happening on other platforms. What can be done to get this fixed? First I guess we need to file it to the proper place. Is it a NetworkManager issue

@mpt I know there are several things going on here but I opened the bug specifically for the icon mix-up. Maybe the icon wouldn't be mixed up if the kernel (or gnome-power- manager) propagated the proper information about the device IOW the fact that its a device battery and not a system battery.

I've tested the kernel suggested by Andy in comment #5 and the brightness started working again for me. Hotkeys are working also. My problem was that after the update of the kernel from 2.6.27-10-generic to 2.6.27-11-generic (using proposed updates) the brightness on my laptop was not changeable.
