After the first start the laptop was unusable, because compiz was

That's probably the difference of autohinting
vs native hinting. Could you try
sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config,
use autohinting, and compare again.
Unfortunately it makes no difference.

Well, that's good. There is no bug...
I have to disagree. If you look at the screenshot, you see clearly that
the Firefox menu has autohinted blurry fonts.

When I use subpixel smoothing and full hinting, the menu fonts get

In the screenshot, you see that the word text in OOo renders very bad

too far away. (I changed the fonts in gedit to

I want to ask if this bug will be fixed before Edgy will be released.
It is a clear regression from Dapper Drake if OpenOffice.org is shipped

The fonts are correct on my two desktops. Fixed now?
Unfortunately, no. I have a laptop and a desktop, on both the problem
persists.
As I mentioned before, the problem isn't in Firefox, but in the
fonts used.
Yes, epiphany and gnome-terminal have the same problems (albeit the
menus are OK.)
I installed the edgy beta release, and the fonts in the menus and inside
of firefox are still fuzzy and the antialiasation is still different to
my remaining GNOME desktop.

OK, I changed the fonts, now some are aliased and the rest is very

My other applications have beautiful antialiasing, antialiased firefox

I want to add that the menu bar fonts of firefox are fuzzy compared to

The solution by Pedro Alejandro López-Valencia doesn't work for me, the
