A wast majority of problems I've had with various releases have been relative
to NPM and wireless. I have now stopped and no longer have the ambition that it
should always work.

September of last year. I have moved on so

@Seth: thanks for your comment. I actually had 2.6.39 running on my pc
for some days but purged it as there was no improvement. I'll try again
in a couple of weeks - but since I found an easy workaround (edit the
NetworkManager.config-file) I'll run with that

It may look like wlan0 is off however: when I boot the very same
machine with another os this os locates and uses the wifi-card AND there
is no hw switch for the wireless card

Based on input from some web-sire (no recollection of which) I edited
the etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and set ifupdown managed to
true - booted and it works..

I wrote VGA but I think it is 600*480 (checked /etc/default/grub) - I
can see that dmesg og lspci reports a VGA card but the Triden card is
XGA and I run Gnome at 1024*768 with no problems
