There may be a relationship to the Openchrome display driver or other
component of the X system:
If I open up the gnome-terminal and run `tail -f /var/log/kern.log` I
see the 2 messages per second as described in comment #25 above. Also

This is still happening today. At some point last night I DID see some
messages regarding the cardbus slot on console ttys, but now the main
problems are that kern.log is constantly getting filled with new
messages and that the cardbus slot is in fact unusable, despite the fact
that it does work
I think bug #436341 is probably a variant of this problem, and is fairly
serious.

Averatec 3280 laptop, and the text screen was normal - no flashing

I found out that my problem was at least partially that I did not check
'connect automatically' in the edit dialog.
As with Tom Wood in #19, the default gateway does not work - I had to
issue a route add default gw ... command as well. However the dialog
for adding additional routes does work ..
Note that I reinstalled the resolvconf package and determined it had
no bearing on this problem.

Regarding the default route issue, the ipv4 section of the file in
/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections for eth0 on my system looks
like:

As of today, the 'cardbus cards' message no longer appears, but now text
consoles are even more unusable - instead of the constant messages, the

updates the format of /boot/grub/menu.lst to a format which seems to
me to be a bit less human-friendly, using hex labels like in recent
