I see this exact same issue.
Everything was fine until I installed Compiz and Settings Manager for Compiz.
After enabling cube, I immediately got my windows stuck, unable to move them.
Googled around and found this bug report.

I have seen flicker as well from the start of using your package. This
is an Eee Box and there was no suspend or hibernation involved. The
flicker used to happen pretty much like before the patch, at random
times. But haven't seen a blank screen though.

I installed fresh Ubuntu 8.10 on EEE Box 202 (Atom, 945GME) couple of days back
and seeing the exact 'blank screen' problem with underrun on pipe A! errors.
Xorg log looks pretty much the same.
