workaround.

Just had this today. Clean install of 12.04 AMD64. Am using nvidia
additional driver marked as post-release updates. Going to switch to
version-current and see if it helps.

will use the integrated graphics rather than discrete when on battery

driver on a clean AMD64 install of Maverick.
My graphics card is a BFG GeForce 9800 GTX OCX 512MB GDDR3. Motherboard

Use FreeNX (http://freenx.berlios.de/). IMO it's much better than VNC
anyway, it automatically sets your screen res, and works with compiz, of
course.
