Based on my tests: 1. The settings from gtk_settings_get_default() are being read and used (set in FontSettings.cpp). Forcing RGB mode in the code does not change anything. 2. Removing text-shadow makes text look slightly better but still with visible colorization/blurriness. 3. Rebuilding
