LiveCD execution of 12.04.1 hangs forever

I dopwnloaded the alternate install (12.04.1) in the hopes that this,
at least, would allow me to get Ubuntu installed.
The process seemed to be going along fine, but now, for the part 30+
minutes, it has been hung (no disk activity and no activity of any kind

I downloaded the latest Ubuntu 12.04.1 (amd64) distribution ISO, burned
it successfully onto a CD, and tried booting it. It booted and came to
the screen where it asks if you want to install or just try (run from
CD/memory). I selected try.
