I cannot reproduce the original problem on the system in question. It
was nearly 2 years ago, so I'm not sure what may have altered to avoid
the problem occurring.
Also, that system is in production, so I can't just update it without
detailed planning.

Using maverick, this problem still occurs.
Unloading the xhci_hcd module via /etc/default/acpi-support doesn't make
any difference.
This bug should be now labelled urgent as there appears to be no
workaround.

Apps that start fine on the console will not start when you connect via
Remote Desktop.
Examples: gnome-terminal, add or delete button in users-admin
Unfortunately, no errors messages are shown (reminiscent of MS Windows)
and there are no clues in files in
The gnome-terminal problem is related to the desktop theme.
If you select Dust, then gnome-terminal will not start.
However, if you select Ambiance or Glider gnome-terminal will
start.
The problem buttons in users-admin is different and I'll post another

I've just installed kubuntu 9.04.
As soon as I logged in the default fonts looked like KDE was shouting at
me.
These are basically all Deja Sans 9.
So, I reduced them all to size 6. That look pretty good in the Font
settings dialog.
But, then the font sizes are all wrong
OK, it turns out that the weird font size appears to only be in
Konqueror.
When I rebooted, my original changes to font size 6 looked all wrong
everywhere.
I reset to default and on rebooting, everything looks great - except
Konqueror.
So, in summary:
