That's a separate bug, not caused by Emerald. There are other issues where
windows don't respond when they have been minimized. You have to shade them to
the titlebar and restore them to fix window mapping for it.

have the problem on my PC that upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10 to 11.04, without

I really wonder why Canonical provide such an old version of Emerald
with Ubuntu. Version 0.7.2 was released in 2009, 2 years ago. Just
recently, there was version 0.8.8 released. How come they update only
some software and keep the rest out-dated which cause problems like
these? They have only

time to learn how to create packages and add them to a ppa than for the current
maintainer to get the latest upstream version and build that.
I know this is the strength of open source, but you can't ask every single

does not have Unity (and I certainly didn't install it when upgrading from
10.10). This error prevents me from using Compiz, because on Xfce, you either

Guru R, that's a problem of the psmouse dkms module. If you use one of
the newer mainline kernels, like 2.6.36, you won't get that error.
Something is wrong with it when dealing with the stock kernel. You can
try using another version of the psmouse package or remove it to get rid
of the error.

Not completely true. When you're running Windows and in the BIOS you have
selected to disable the touchpad when an external mouse is connected, the stick
will still work but the touchpad won't. Mario just wants the same behavior,
without actually attaching an external mouse.

doesn't change much other than the name itself and maybe some patches in it for
Natty. I did the same when new builds of 2.6.36 were released. So maybe the

the attached patched files with previous stock kernels until I went to
2.6.36 and now run 2.6.37. No problem with the last kernel on it. So
maybe it's the kernel that's giving problems, or you're missing the

It works fine now. Install on kernel 2.6.37 x64 was successful. Thanks
for the dkms patch, it makes it a lot easier to update the kernel
without having to patch it manually every time or wait for someone to
upload a patched version for your kernel.

I am aware of the work around, it's just that this 'bug' is only fixed when you
use GDM or KDM. Xfce4-terminal should set the variable too, but it never
happens. It's xterm by default, but even if you enter some garbage text, the
$TERM variable will always be linux. I find it odd that this bug
I just removed GDM in favour of LXDM on my laptop and suddenly it's
showing this issue. This bug is not solved if you are using a different
login manager like LXDM. AFAIK, GDM and KDM work around this 'bug'. No
idea about WDM or other login managers.

rules don't work on it (add xfce4-notifyd to put it as always on top).

I'm having this same problem, but very strange results. On my PC, with
an nVidia card, I have no problems. I can run a VirtualBox VM, then open
a video file with SMplayer, no transparent video output. Xv works just
fine too. Compiz-Fusion is running (I use the Xfce environment). My PC

I noticed one thing this morning when I resumed my laptop from hibernate. I
wasn't able to play any audio file to produce sound coming out of my speakers.

This is strange. I have a different kernel version installed than the
one shipped with Jaunty (installed kernel 2.6.29.1 and 2.6.30.8 from
kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline) and those are not reducing the
boot lag with this change. The stock kernel however, reduces my boot
from 18 seconds
Tested a bit more. I have to boot a different kernel than the stock one,
because my wireless just won't connect to my access point with the stock
one. This really sucks. I'm gonna try the Karmic kernel, that should
give me my wireless back and hopefully accept the 'patch'. Else I'm

problem if I didn't adjust the powerbtn script to include the check for
xfce4-power-manager. All versions of the power manager are a problem,

Audacious should play the stream, but it doesn't. When run from the
terminal, I get the following output. This is done on a live CD
environment, but also
I think this is by design. Because you don't see the initial window
decorations, it works around it. This causes all window manager options
to be ignored, including wobbly windows. Same goes for snapping windows
to other windows. Open a terminal for example, and it won't snap to
audacious windows
I found out why PA takes up so much CPU. I noticed it only by accident,
and with the help of the new pavucontrol (0.9.8). When you set PA to use
6 channels, it also sets that for input. So your mic would record with 6
channels, not just 2. In the new pavucontrol, you can change the
configuration
I talked to Alam Lenny on IRC about PulseAudio, and my initial problem with
0.9.15 is solved. By setting flat-volumes = no to daemon.conf, my volume
doesn't get reset when a new stream is opened, nor does the volume change on
app level in pavucontrol reset it.

version. In Karmic, the CPU went back to normal after a while, but with

I've done some testing myself, and I thought it was the version of pulseaudio,
and it's components, like pavucontrol. Since I didn't have any issues with the
Jaunty build on my Intrepid, I downgraded the lot to the same version as my
intrepid install. That is, PA 0.9.14-0ubuntu14 and
I have the same issue. When I have pavucontrol running for too long, it
will crash PA. Too long is after about 20-30 seconds.
I don't know since when it exactly happened, but I do know that it
didn't crash in previous Ubuntu builds. I know for sure that in
1:0.9.14-0ubuntu14, it didn't happen.
Updating did not work. It still crashes when pavucontrol is running and
6 channels in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf is set.

I run the Hardy kernel on Gutsy, but I don't have any problems with my audio. I
go to hibernate when playing music and when I resume from hibernate, it playes
again. No problem what so ever. This is on a Fujitsu-Siemens Pi 1536. This has
the Realtek HD Audio.

This problem is Network manager related. I don't use Network manager and
at home my ssid is hidden. It takes some time, but eventually
wpa_supplicant can connect without any problem. This is with module
1.1.17kds from the 2.6.24-5 modules, and at

I have both the latest kernel (2.6.24-12-generic) and an older one
(2.6.24-5-generic) and also the Gutsy kernel (as I just loaded the Hardy
kernel on Gutsy). This problem does not happen on the 2.6.24-5 kernel.
That uses the 1.1.17 module. I updated the module on the 2.6.24-12 to
1.2.26k from
I've done some testing. I rebooted every time with the switch turned on
(wifi off, kill switch on). Every time the network was shown disabled.
When I did a sudo ifup wlan, the interface came back on. As long as the
switch was on, the network was on DISABLED state shown on lshw -C
network. When I

intellinuxwireless.org, the original project site. That gave me some
problems. Now I can finally have wifi in all kernels that I want,
including the Gutsy kernel (2.6.22-14, the iwl module didn't work there
too).

With the latest iwlwifi module, wifi for the Intel pro wireless 3945
doesn't work as it should. I don't use Network Manager (not installed)
