I have the same problem on my ATI Technologies Inc RS880 Audio Device
[Radeon HD 4200].
pavucontrol shows audio streams but there is no corresponding sound.
I've just installed alsa-hda-dkms 0.201110231811~oneiric1 and the
problem persists.
The only output alsamixer shows is S/PDIF.

i can confirm this on Ubuntu Gutsy with the same version
this repeats even after i've removed ~/.gaim ~/.purple and have purged
pidgin pidgin-data libpurple0 and install pidgin and etc again

i've tested with dell my inspiron 1501 a number of the linux live cd
distributions with 2.6 kernel and found that no one works!
list of the tested distros:
- lunar linux
- gnome live cd
- open suse 10.2
all are freezing on boot with default options

after adding /etc/mailname with my domain name:
(on the step with unknown database it was created manualy and the we
got error with unexpected operator)
