Yesterday I installed dapper (6.06 LTS) on my machine at work and ran
updates rebooted a few times due to other config changes, such as NIS
and NFS. I left it on overnight and this morning I found it had consumed
almost all my memory and swap space (1GB RAM and 2GB of swap).
thanks for the confirmation, I really hope there's a fix for it, because
this would block me from installing kubuntu 6.06 on our office desktops.

Ok, I've played around a bit with xrestop and I think it is the
combination of firefox/thunderbird and xorg.
top gives a bit misleading indication of the Xorg server it seems,
xrestop gives about 100-250M less memory as total than what top
indicates.
Using firefox or thunderbird increases the
I don't know if this is a sensible observation, but it appears as if the
second run of firefox/thunderbird seem quite normal or even small in
their use of xorg memory.
(with second run, I mean: start FF/TB, use it, close it, wait until
xrestop/top show they're gone and then start FF/TB again.)

I have something similar, Whenever I log out or reboot, my powersaving

It seems that it's not openoffice, but cups itself that is configured
not to show network printers.
changing the browsing option in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf will correct this
(at least, for me)
before: Browsing Off
after: Browsing On
I don't understand why this is configured this way by default,
