Removing compiz and compiz-gnome causes a new bug for me, see LP:559106.
However, that bug is more related to the Appearance Properties dialog
(it should work correctly without compiz and/or compiz-gnome installed
too).

I just got a similar crash whilst doing my daily lucid update. Packages
to be upgraded were console-setup and libmjpegtools. Apport fired up and
pointed me to this bug report, noting it was the same problem I was
trying to report.
However, after closing update-manager and launching it again
I can further confirm your solution to be working. Somehow I did not
notice that package until now. I can also agree on the fact that this
should be handled in both the upgrade process and software centre.

I am having the same problem. The new theme was not applied, and I
believe I also changed the theme manually. As gdm-setup does not allow
changing the theme anymore, what is the correct way of solving this
issue, apart from deleting /var/lib/gdm?

I just had a look at that and it seems like a valid bug report to me.
Obviously importing directsound will not work on GNU/Linux.

A quick check showed that ipython 0.9.1-1 is in Jaunty already. However,
you could possibly download the .deb of 0.9.1-3 (latest version in
Debian unstable) from http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/i/ipython/
and install it right away.
I don't seem to remember any dependency that should make
ipython 0.9.1-1 has entered Debian experimental (due to the lenny
freeze, would have gone into unstable otherwise) now. foolscap is not a
dependency anymore but rather a recommends.
This means that at least Jaunty's ipython can be replaced with the
package in Debian experimental.

0.9.1 should follow soon.
As ipython 0.9.x depends on foolscap that package would have to be
ported/included in intrepid too.
