I can confirm this. Before 4.4.2, Phonon's backends used Pulseaudio
seamlessly. For some reason, Pulse's device was replaced with ESD on
my system after the upgrade to 4.4.2, and the new PA device actually
routes through alsa and has obvious latency issues.

gnome-volume-control misbehaving with some applications
Public bug reported:
1) Ubuntu 9.10 (alpha4, AMD64)
When adjusting the volume in (for example) gnome-mplayer, the volume level in
the sound preferences will only go down.
For example, if the volume level in gnome-mplayer is at 50% and the volume
level in gnome-volume-control is at 50%, and I
same problem in Jaunty here. Disabling remote desktop in preferences fixes the
issue (but no remote access)
Running vino-server from a terminal window seems to be alright (no excessive
CPU usage).
As soon as I enable remote desktop from the preferences menu, CPU spikes
again.
AMD cpu.
I am also seeing this bug. It does not appear to be a kernel issue, but an
issue with f-spot. I can import photos using gtkam.
