Doing a conversion from HP-UX to Linux (Red Hat/Ubuntu) shows some encodings on
Linux are incomplete. Or at at least they show unexpected behaviour.
Using \xc3\xbc\x73, which is a UTF-8 string of u umlaut followed by
an s.

On HP-UX using utf8 to US-ASCII conversion a galley character would
replace a non-mappable character (if the conversion has a galley
character defined). So for my original example the output would be ?s
on HP-UX from utf8 to US-ASCII (where ? is the galley character). In

If I drop to the shell I can let the fsck finish and start the X environment
manually (just as a work around).
If I don't do anything I can login via the GUI, but since my home directory is
not ready by then I just get an empty desktop and a warning dialog like

the panel and all applets properly being displayed. When all is ready the

The sliders for gamma connection in the MonitorDisplay module of system
settings does not work (currently on kubuntu hardy alpha 6).
To test:
- open a konsole (terminal if not under kubuntu)

- go to the Color Gamma
It's a problem with the xorg.conf (apparantly some items were removed
which MonitorDisplay module still looks at), so anyone who by default
replaces it by his own probably won't get the error.
For first time users this would be pretty annoying.

sudo ln -s /usr/lib/libpython2.5.so.1 /usr/lib/libpython2.5.so

application tries to dlopen /usr/lib/libpython2.5.so (only found in the -dev
package)
I just checked hardy alpha5... for me it's fixed in there. I can access
the windows by clicking on the icons in konqueror, no extra actions are
needed.
So I guess this one can be closed.

This is a combination of 2 bugs:
1) Installation of -dev package will fix the problem with libpython2.5 (but
that would still need to be fixed up properly), you can see this e.g. in user
management which will work afterwards
2) But for MonitorDisplay an extra error exists which is not solved
Public bug reported:
Activate autohinting by default on fonts, preferably system wide. It makes a
huge difference qua font quality.
In hardy alpha4 it's not on by default e.g.
