Same here. Hauppauge PVR-500 (dual tuner).
GUI is responsive but doesn't show any progress.
Clean install of 9.10.
Used to work on 8.10.

After searching the internet I found out that connecting via the shell while
defining
Local Port 1 in the vpnc.conf did the trick.
But there's nowhere in the gui of network-manager a place to define the local
port, i think?

I can make a vpn-connection (from the shell or via network-manager applet) when
I'm connected to the internet with a wire, but not when I'm connected via
wireless.
The VPN login failed because the VPN program could not connect to the VPN
server.

After an upgrade to Feisty, system takes forever to boot.
There were some 'ata2.01: failed to set xfermode (err_mask=0x4)' errors,
so i applied Ben Collins solution and everything went smooth.
