Perhaps the scheduled backup failures have something to do with the
encryption? Just a thought as nobody mentioned it before.
I'm also affected by this bug. I use samba share with the backup
encryption enabled. Both samba and backup credentials are saved in the
Seahorse password storage so I
Workaround - use regular scrollbars (better than nthing):
gsettings set com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode normal
To go back to overlay scrollbars:
gsettings set com.canonical.desktop.interface scrollbar-mode overlay-
auto
Note: 'gsettings reset com.canonical.desktop.interface

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for pointing me to this bug and your patches. I can confirm that
after installing them there's just occasional video tearing in Unity -
similar to Gnome 2 and Gnome Shell.

Hello Sebastian,
Are you sure it's low? There are many video tearing bugs reported by
various people on many different HW configurations and over quite some
years now. It seems to me that there must be some fundamental problem in
the SW stack.
Is it possible to create a generic video tearing
Sure:
Intel example:

NV example: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/600178
ATI example:

You can also google for ubuntu
On the side note, none of the Gnome GUIs available in 11.10 is capable
of tear-free video playback in dual-screen configuration, with laptop
being primary screen and TV over HDMI being the secondary screen at
least on my XPS M1530 laptop. The NVidia settings app has a radio-

I've just noticed that xrandr reports 50Hz refresh rate of laptop's
panel but glxgears runs at 60 FPS but claims it's synchronised with the

It makes UNE, advertised on the Ubuntu home page, completely useless.
The bug is quite critical, if you ask me, unless you intend to scare
