Okay, never mind on the camera bit. I just realized that I do have a camera: my laptop webcam. I was able to get this picture of vbeinfo on my desktop using Cheese, after resetting grub to use GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480 again. I think some of the output at the top is cut off, and you can see black
