Installing the latest vertified nVidia drivers (190.42) seems to fix the
problem, suggesting that its origin is in an interaction between the
linux kjernel, java, and older versions of the nVidia driver. I'll stick
to this solution until an updated nvidia driver package is released

Same issue here, with latest version of JDownloader (9.310), Asus P5E3
Deluxe mobo, Nvidia GeForce 9500 GT with v185 driver installed through
the provided proprietary drivers management tool. Linux distro is a
vanilla Kubuntu v9.10 AMD64 (installed a few days ago).
