Public bug reported:
Viking versions 1.5.1-1 (wily) and 1.6-1 (xenial) both are compiled
against libmapnik 2.2, which has been superseded by libmapnik 3.0 in
wily and up. This prevents Viking from starting with the following
error:

I confirm exactly the same issue on Ubuntu 15.10
A workaround is commenting out "dns=dnsmasq" in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
then restarting NetworkManager: sudo service NetworkManager restart

non-Compiz desktop environments such as XFCE.
In the Ubuntu session, every time xorg crashes this happens _always_ on

display a new window or a new menu).

Human work as expected.
Light-themes version is 0.1.6.5
Bug #414353 seems somehow related, however with the following versions the
issue is still there.
libclutk-0.2-0
