restarted. This started after an update approx 4 days ago (9th June, 2010).
This also leads to the nm-applet showing up approx 15 mins after boot.

Doesn't seem to make much of a difference on my machine. I get the same
1 min 25-30 secs on stopwatch.

Found the solution in Ubuntu Forums:

In a nutshell: The key
gconf-editor - apps - metacity - global_keybindings -
switch_windows_backward
was not set. Changing it to AltShiftTab makes it work.

There's only one application progress status visible in the Window for 'In
Progress'.
Happened when I tried to queue up Thunderbird for install with Eclipse already
at 39% dowloading.
It looks like thunderbird is queued up, but it's not

Both applications got installed.
No issues with the installed applications.
But the window never even showed thunderbird installation as 'in progress'.
My net is really slow. So it can't be simply a matter of a very quick
install that I missed
