Mack:
You have to get the root privileges to edit /etc/sysctl.conf. To learn about
acting as root see for example:
https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/administrative/C/
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo
I suppose you use graphical interface, so open a terminal and at the
command prompt
After the explanation it seems the problem doesn't matter any more. To
clean up, I change the status to invalid.

Wrong /var/lib/bluetooth/BD address/config prevents setting correct hci class
I had the same problem since installation of Hardy - could not print to
remote printer, while connecting it locally was OK. I use kernel
2.6.24-16-generic on AMD64. The workaround described above by Eric Wick
solved the problem for me. Thanks a lot!

You must enable 'hardy-proposed' updates. If you use Synaptic it is under
Preferences|Repositories , then 'Updates' tab.

Unfortunately for me evolution crashes in every view (version 2.22.1), so this
is not a workaround.

After reading the bug #212960 I just tried to install updated
linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-16-generic v.23ubuntu2 supplied by Stefan Bader in
his repository (https://launchpad.net/~stefan-bader-canonical/+archive) and the
problem is gone! I mean that I removed saa7134 from blacklist and
I confirm that openoffice.org-java-common was not installed despite
properly updated system. After installing it manually my java was
recognized and OO works fine.

I have the same problem - crash when pasting an appointment.
A attach my backtrace using gdb.
Don't know how to catch this using apport - there is nothing in /var/crash. If
someone tells me how - I can provide more iformation.

First, thanks for the workaround.
I blacklisted the saa7134 and now I can boot with 2.6.24-16-generic kernel and
hald loads.
I tried to load saa7134 manually by 'sudo modprobe -v saa7134'
and I got this:
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.24-16-generic/kernel/drivers/media/video/v4l1-compat.ko

I confirm this problem after fresh 7.04 (Feisty) install from alternate CD.
The workaround by PaulFr posted by yct worked fine - thanks.
As I'm not the linux wizz, could someone enlighten me what exactly this
workaround does? I think I understand the command, but miss the sense -
why it helps?
Tanks for the explanation.
I have bluetooth working OK. I was just surprised, that after installing the
new bluez-utils version my device reported no available services, and it was
before I started to play with any configuration files. All I wanted was my
configuration to remain as with earlier
Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: bluez-utils
When entry 'class' exists in /var/lib/bluetooth/BD address/config it
takes precedence over class settings in /etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf. When
starting/restarting bluetooth, regardless of changes in
/etc/bluetooth/hcid.conf hci class remains as
I also confirm this problem on Feisty, but for me adding --devup and full path
to script helped.
I checked the debian bug report mentioned by Ken - it says this feature is back
as default in newer versions of bluez. Unfortunately I have not found them in
any Ubuntu repository, but I'm gonna
