I have a similar problem :
When I switch to console mode (ctrl+alt+F1 for example) I get this message
repeating infinitively yealink: unexpected response fd...
My logs /var/log/kern.log and /var/log/syslog only contain a great number of
lines like that :

I don't have totem anymore but I remember trying before and it had no
sound problems.
With the comand line, it works just fine!
