the problem is squid waits for 30 (default) seconds to terminate, and
prevents new squid process from spawning. I have just added this to my
/etc/init/squid.conf
this causes upstart to wait for squid to fully exit before declaring it
stopped, this means things like restart squid function as

I'm hitting this issue on lucid, with drbd ocfs2 devices.
I currently do not receive the maint shell.
attempting to hit 'S', does not skip the attempted mount of /dev/drbd0
...
a work around seems to be setting noauto on these fstab entries, this
causes them to get mounted later in the boot

curl and pycurl is not compiled with sftp support
I have attached a patch for this. One of our applications depends on
this, we currently are building our own version of this package with
patch applied, I have just had to rebuild for lucid.
