I don't know if this is addressing the same issue, but I have problems
getting sound to work with Adobe flash player and Skype. When I try to
play flash media as a normal user I have no sound, as root it works
fine. All normal users are members of the group 'sound', so that is not
the problem.

AMD64 dual core system with Nvidia 6600 256 MB graphics card. Did a whole bunch
of tweaks I found here and there:
- disabled SLI in Xorg.conf
- installed and activated irqbalance
- set irq settings to manual in the
I've been encountering this defect after upgrading from intrepid to jaunty.
It also prevents from starting font-lock-mode (syntax highlighting) and
latex-mode ; so all-in-all it is quite blocking to me.

Another device for the list: Sony Ericsson K850i mobile phone. It used

I have this issue as well with a Dell Inspiron 1525n (came with Gutsy
installed, I upgraded to Hardy). It is truly a terrible noise!
The frustrating thing from a troubleshooting point of view is that it
