The interface seem extremely sluggish. Clicking, selecting, scrolling
events are delayed; the menus too. Even just un-minimising cause a very
noticeable delay in window redraw.

I had a problem with my computer crashing when switching to full screen
when running compiz. I fixed this by:
* running 'gstreamer-properties' in the terminal
* clicking the video tab
* changing 'Plugin' to 'X Window System (No Xv)'. If that doesn't work, try the
'X Window System

I think you might be looking for answers in the wrong place as I don't think
the fullscreen crash issue you are experiencing is related to this patch. I had
the same issue before I applyed the patch and I had the same issue after I
applied the patch.

Yep, same issue here.
I'm running on a Dell Studio 15 with an ATI HD 3450 card (3400 series).
Also, totem runs really slow and results in a black screen if switch to
full screen.
