The workaround might work for some, but while I don't get corruptions, I
still have random kernel panics. I just reinstalled 8.10 :) Happy with
that for now.

Same goes for me, I switched to AHCI and the corruption problem is gone,
but I too am getting the occasional freeze, especially when the hard
drive is working hard, like copying large files.
