then came across a blog post that got rid of my hisstle. Don't know if
it will be of any help for you, but under Alsamixer I turned off the
capture volume (after pressing f5) and this got rid of the hiss at
volumes lower than
Never mind... it seemed to help for a time but has returned, perhaps a
little softer than before. Frustrated...

Surround Sound hisstles
Running Natty Beta 2 and experiencing a similar problem, though it seems
to be slightly different than the original description. My 5.1 surround
sound system seems to rattle only when my volume is lower than the
maximum; so long as I keep it on max and adjust the volume of individual
applications
Experiencing the same issue, but on a regular install (as opposed to
Virtualbox), as of December 17th.

This behaviour is definitely not a result of the sound indicator
extension, because I didn't even have it installed when I first moved
over to Maverick, and I have been experiencing this issue since.

a) When I am running on battery power with reasonable energy, gnome-
power-manager does not recognize that I am on battery. This is confirmed
because when I change the power management settings to always show

Tried enabling the mouse click manually under xorg.conf. No luck.

Installing gsynaptics and enabling the tap feature worked. Even after
removing the gsynaptics program it works. Don't know why the regular
mouse settings tool wasn't working.
