@ danielTo say that this happens with 'every' system, is just not true. Just click the right mouse button in Windows, KDE or Openbox and this behaviour doesn't happen; nothing is automatically selected. I have not tried Apple OSX or XFCE environments, however. This is actually only a problem

I have checked with Windows XP and KDE and neither have this issue; when right clicking, nothing is automatically highlighted and ready for selection. So I believe this to be a gnome specific issue which does not provide any benefit to the end user, but can be an annoyance. It is wrong to assume

It could be an extension causing this problem, as I see that you've installed some 'experimental' add-ons such as FasterFox etc. I don't think FasterFox extension is compatible with Firefox 3.0. Maybe you should create a new profile and remove extensions and see if that makes any difference. --
