In Nautilus, once I've connected to a remote server via Sftp, I find
that double clicking on a folder suddenly and randomly brings me back to
my Home folder. Its as if I've been logged out of the Sftp session, but
I just need to press

Just click the right mouse button in Windows, KDE or Openbox and this
behaviour doesn't happen; nothing is automatically selected. I have
not tried Apple OSX or XFCE environments, however. This is actually
only a problem
Sorry, this is a false alarm. My modem has MAC filtering, so just needed to
add the mac address to the allowed list.
Working fine now.

I find the window's rename mode to be more of an issue when using a
laptop with touchpad rather than a mouse On a small netbook or a
smaller laptop, it would be even more irritating. Not everyone sits on
a desk using a mouse.

Cannot rename by clicking on a file
If we look at various UI operations as layers of importance. In
windows, why is changing the name of a file made almost as easy as
opening a file. Is it such a priority task that we are willing to
accept the potential mistakes that can occur?
Even if we feel that the benefits of making Windows
Screensavers are a complete waste of space and just a legacy of the CRT
era. Just one additional variable that can cause problems PC. I'd be
happy if there was just 5 simple screensavers. As DavidCOG pointed out,
its also a wastage of CPU and thus not very 'green'. Every little bit
counts!

the right-click menu which have it, but there are many items in the edit
menu which do not mention any shortcut keys at all, so I don't think
there is any rule we need to follow. The right-click menu can

that I agreed with 'jango' not soliac. The select and then click to
rename can get annoying after a while when you often end up entering
rename mode by mistake...especially if you are using a touchpad not
mouse.

It could be an extension causing this problem, as I see that you've
installed some 'experimental' add-ons such as FasterFox etc. I don't
think FasterFox extension is compatible with Firefox 3.0. Maybe you
should create a new profile and remove extensions and see if that makes
any difference.

I was running Firefox while installing Netbeans 6.5.1 and JavaFX 1.2 SDK. Once
installation completed and I was running Netbeans. After a few minutes, my
laptop powered-off (shutdown) by itself, for no apparent reason. Once
rebooted, everything seems to be working fine.
The problem has resolved after a re-installation and update. I no
longer face this problem.
