The computer's been asleep overnight. When it woke up it had the same
symptoms. Repeated password requests and no connection.
I used my smartphone to change the wireless on my TP-Link_42DE2E to
Open. The Ubuntu machine connected. I then reverted the wireless to
WPA2-Personal. I went

I've got this working by changing my wireless network to unsecured. It
connected. I then returned the wireless to secured and it's worked fine since.
That's just a couple of hours so I'll see how it goes. Throughout this fiasco

I've installed GUFW (GUI for the 'uncomplicated' firewall). If I
disable the firewall all is good. I'm working on getting this to be an
exception rather than disabling the firewall but that's proving to be
not 'uncomplicated'.

It seems to work if I add a rule allowing 192.168.0.0/24 (IP adresses
for my MSHOME network) in on TCP and UDP. I don't have a clue what UDP
is and only the vaguest Idea what TCP is but it seems to work.

Why is this so complicated? I like ubuntu. It usually just works. I
need a straightforward way to get Ubuntu to talk to a bog standard
windows network. In comparison to all the fantastic stuff that is in
ubuntu this seems a fairly small thing. I've tried so many changes to
the samba config
I am now using 10.04 and I've let the battery discharge. It is telling me
that it's about to run out. That's fine. Thank you.
