As people have said here more eloquently than I can, there is room for
more than one way of shutting down. I for one really liked the timer
because I'd often walk away without realizing my desktop was still on at
the dialog screen. I found

The dialog still isn't very fast. At least with a timer the computer
will still shutdown even if you walk away before seeing a warning
message, but you can also change your mind. Why keep people from adding
it back?

This affects me as well, but in the final version (kernel compiled april
11).
Had to boot my laptop with apci=off, then run sudo service lxde start.

I have this problem too, installer failed while the partitioner was going
(thankfully no data was lost -- looks like gparted finished the job). I was

This happens exactly to me, and mine is an ALPS device as well. Vertical
side scrolling doesn't work, and after suspend, pointer is erratic,
clicking is erratic, all kinds of problems. I haven't tried holding

Touchpad/Mouse pad vertical scrolling
This bug seems to affect me in 10.10 (I have not tried to reproduce it
yet in natty but I can in a few minutes). xset dpms force off will
stay off for 30-60s before coming on again. sudo radeontool light off
fails without an error. If I let the backlight turn off on it's own, it
seems to stay off
Drawing programs have had this functionality since the dawn of time.
gpaint isn't that useful without it.

Starting today (March 11, suspend has woken flawlessly the last three
times in a row. If there was any kernel upgrade in that time, it appears
to have fixed the wake from suspend aspect of this but.

I was unable to work on this computer for some time, but in october, I

now hibernate is basically broken --
When I click hibernate, the screen darkens, I get a blinking cursor, and then
two [...]activation failed messages.
@fishor - I don't know how to recompile the kernel, but I will look for
instructions if you want.

Hibernate still flashes the screen, and displaces cryptic messages about
the usb, but it does eventually power down, and resumes naturally. If
you want to work with the screen flashes and stuff, keep it open. But
those are minor problems, and I'll understand if you close it. I'm just
glad that the
still some rough spots, but the computer does actually hibernate now.

I've been having this problem until today, when I changed my password on
the last.fm site and in rhythmbox's preferences. Now, both the radio and
the scrobble submissions are working. I haven't restarted yet -- I'll
post back to see if still works after a restart.

Yes. Upgrading to Gutsy fixed it at first, but then further upgrades
caused it to not work. I'm tempted to just buy a newer cd drive, or
maybe a new computer entirely

I use an NETGEAR WG311T, which has an Atheros AR52 chipset, to connect
to a WPA home network. It worked out of the box, and seemed stable for
quite some time, however recently it can not hold a steady connection in
ubuntu. In windows xp I experience no problems with it.
