It seems that there is a conflict between winbind and avahi-deamon running at the same time. If both are running at the same time, then samba shares are inaccessible. -- Installing winbind makes samba shares inaccessible on the machine that the winbind is installed in.

I am not sure if this is related but I have been having problems with my samba installation and have traced it to winbind for now. When winbind is installed I can browse samba shares on a feisty machine (fresh install). When I remove winbind, I can browse the said shares. If I install winbind

This seems to be a genral problem in Feisty and the generic kernals/headers etc. I'm on a fresh install of feisty 2.6.20-15-generic and am havig compilation erros related to module building. 1) latest serialmonkey rt73usb kernal module for instance. This will compile with simply entering the
