I have Samba and winbind installed. I installed winbind so I don't have
to remember IP's and can refer to machines on the network by their
names.
The problem is when winbind is running ... the shares on the machine on
It seems that there is a conflict between winbind and avahi-deamon
running at the same time. If both are running at the same time, then
samba shares are inaccessible.

Installing winbind makes samba shares inaccessible on the machine that the
winbind is installed in.
I am not sure if this is related but I have been having problems with my
samba installation and have traced it to winbind for now.
When winbind is installed I can browse samba shares on a feisty machine
(fresh install). When I remove winbind, I can browse the said shares.
If I install winbind
This seems to be a genral problem in Feisty and the generic
kernals/headers etc.
I'm on a fresh install of feisty 2.6.20-15-generic and am havig compilation
erros related to module building.
1) latest serialmonkey rt73usb kernal module for instance.
