A work around is to blacklist the floppy module:
sudo vi /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
add
blacklist floppy
and then run update-initramfs:
sudo update-initramfs -u

This workaround corrected my constant floppy drive polling. Great
Constant floppy seek activity which needs to be corrected in os.

I uninstalled and reinstalled flash-nonfree plug in and firefox had to
search for open source codecs which then allowed flash videos to play. I
think the new firefox 3.0 is buggy. :^ zingerest

I have tried to play flash files on youtube and others with same
behavior. I have ubuntu 8.04 on amd64 with 2gb memory and have tried
gnash and other flash players including nonfree one with no success.
