I can't confirm about espeak, or about skype as in bug #361615, but i affected
by this bug in my own apps using Portaudio lib. The same error flood and 20
secs delay arrives even with this simplest test program:
[code]
#include
#include
#include
PaStream *stream;
int main(void) {

I just see that you have 32x OS. Ihave 32x too. Maybe thats the problem?
Bluez-alsa depends on...ia32libs multyarch!
I think i don't need that libs, because i don't use 64x programs. I hope that
will fix my problem. :)

Any fix for this? This also affects me (using saucy x64) when using
multiple many sound applications (lmms, audacity, mixxx...).
Uninstalling bluetooth support for ALSA is not an option because I daily
use sound over bluetooth. Please fix.

A workaround (in 12.04 LTS) is to send espeak output to stdout, and pipe
through paplay. This removes the delay and error messages.
$ time echo hello|espeak
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1018:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
[... tons more error lines ...]

Having bluez-alsa installed also slows the startup of metacity down by
20 seconds or so. Uninstalling it, audacity starts in three seconds.
When run in terminal, it always waits about 5 seconds, then displays:
ALSA lib audio/pcm_bluetooth.c:1614:(audioservice_expect)
BT_GET_CAPABILITIES failed :

Title:
espeak sound output very slow
To be clear, when I say slows down, what I actually mean is that with
bluez-alsa installed and bluetooth enabled, running espeak results in a
~20 second delay, followed by espeak working correctly and playing sound
at the correct pitch: speed of sound playback is not affected.
