using linux-image 3.2.0-37.58 and xserver-xorg-video-radeon
1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2
But by using fglrx, 2:8.960-0ubuntu1.1 , and fglrx-experimental-9
2:9.010-0ubuntu0.3 which works normally.

Two things to check:
1. the fglrx version that is installed. If not installed, please try one.
2. if fglrx driver still fails, please attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log to the bug.

when you set 800x600? According to your dmesg it is using 1024x768:
