This has occured to me after Installing a different language pack and
then removing it.
Putting English back on top of Language Support menu, applying the
settings system-wide and restarting has fixed it.

I also hit this problem, caused by LANG=C . Switched to LC_ALL=C and the

This definitely seems to be a problem with the indicator being unable to
cope with an unexpected locale setting. I had export LANG=C in my
~/.profile file, and saw the same behavior. After modifying the line to
export LC_COLLATE=C, the datetime-indicator now works properly.

Hello, can you please check your locale settings? Just type locale in a
terminal and paste the info here. It might be related to that.
Some more info is here https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Locale. Maybe
you can find a fix.
